Don't know 'bout you, but my Mom never bought me the Dr. Marten boots I pined after as a teenager.
I scoured Value Village (my favorite cherry-scented-Portland thrift store of days gone by...), but the boots I found were always really, really small or really, really big.
Now that I'm in my 30's, I had to fulfill my dreams at last. Not only do I now have a pair of lovely Victorian floral Shoreditch Dr. Martens, but I have 24 pairs. They actually belong to Betty though.
Which means...they could belong to you!
So go ahead, fulfill your adolescent dreams.
By the way, nothing speaks of Dr. Matens grunge heyday more than Pearl Jam...who just happen to be playing in Missoula Sunday.

Ahhh....Doctor Marten. Not a day has gone by without me thinking of my green ones I owned as a pre-teen. They were a hand-me-down from my cousin Jane, who, luckily for me, had out-grown them. She was sixteen when I was ten in 1998, and she was my '90s icon. I wanted be just like her, going so far as to even wear my hair to cover one eye and put holes in my tights, to my mother's chagrin.
I thought (and still think) they were the coolest things in the world, and became obsessed with Docs. I would scout for the tell-tale yellow stitching and rubber sole worn by the fashionably-shod on Newbury St. Always hoping those cool kids wearing them would notice mine and would see me as their peer, recognizing my inherent coolness. Sadly, I outgrew them eventually and haven't owned a pair since. But hey, now that my feet aren't growing anymore...these red ones are looking pretty good...--Miranda
Early 80s, BLACK FLAG show, mosh pit, Henry Rollins looking menacing in his nylon running shorts and nothing else...that "Search and Destroy" tat on his back...that's my earliest Doc memory. So yeah, I was jumping off the stage before you all were even jumping off the little yellow school bus. But now that these iconic boots have secured their place in the pantheon of classic footwear, you don't have to be toothless punk, grizzled flannel flyin' freak, or even a neo-skinhead to wear them. In fact, I like them best with a girly dress. Come on down and git sum!!--Julia
