Butte, America.

I feel like Butte has come up a lot lately in this blog, so tonight's First Friday is very fitting.
Personally, young artists collective isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Butte. I think of miners, Muzz and Stan's, late night dining at the Pek Inn, a giant statue of Mother Mary, and dancing the night away at the Silver Dollar. Not to mention the best thrifting in America.
But recently Butte has experienced a surge of creativity with the start-up of an Artist's Residency in town. Tonight we will show the work of three artists who have collaborated in this collective.
E. Louise Larson, Adam Lynn, and Jack Arcand will provide a glimpse into their lives in Butte while working as a part of this collective. From teaching comic book workshops to re-designing local signage, these artists have tried to inject an artistic life into the post-industrialist society of Butte, America. Their work tonight showcases the challenges and rewards of working in the city once known to have "the richest hill on earth."
Here's Louise working on the lay-out of her photographs in our Man Planet.

There is something very familiar about Louise's collection of photographs, like your grandma's cluttered stairway. However the subject matter is quite different, simple snapshots of life as a young artist in Butte.

An artist's desk...
Although Louise avoided many Butte stereotypes, no collection would be complete without a view of the Berkeley Pit.
Here's several of Jack Arcand's pen and ink drawings...that feature wandering thoughts of everyday people articulated by an grotesquely intricate drawing style.

The following pieces are by Adam Lynn, who displayed some of this work in another show in Butte recently.

Bright, creative and incredibly detailed borders surround black pen drawings of figures in an almost comic book-like style.
Get closer to read what these characters say to one another...it may make you laugh or shrink away with horror...you will have to decide for yourself!
As always we will have Bernice's treats and wine galore from 5ish-8!!
